British and soul band from East Baltimore. A late 1967 lineup featured the lead vocals of Larry Chenoweth ,with Bob Spaulding (drums), Denny Weininger, and bassist Bob Trantor (ex-Decades). Collette Kelly also had a stint as lead vocalist.
The group played mostly teen centers and school dances in the Baltimore area. Some of the gigs included Our Lady of Victory, St. Girard’s CYO, St. Joseph’s CYO, Sacred Heart of Mary CYO, St. Brigid’s CYO, St. Elizabeth’s CYO, Westminster Theater, Perry Hall Jr. High, St. Mary’s Church in York, Gov. Thomas Johnson High School in Frederick, St. Mark’s CYO, Glen Burnie Armory…
In July 1967 the Status Quo won first place in a 15-band competition on TV’s “Rock, English & Soul” program. They won the honors of August 1967 Band of the Month at the Fort Meade battle of the bands – and in December placed in the finals for Band of the Year. The group won a battle of the bands contest at St. Elizabeth’s CYO on February 27, 1968. In April and again in June of 1968, the band performed in the Teen Fair Battle of the Bands contests at the Civic Center.

Late 1968 Chenoweth left and joined the band Flying Circus, the Status Quo recruited lead vocalist Collette Kelly. The group played gigs at the Holy Rosary, Maiden Choice, Brooklyn Park, and St. Matthew’s Teen Centers, St. Claire’s CYO, Holabird Jr. High School….

Collette later joined the Exquisites, Upsetters, Grok, Phoenix…
