Program founded by Tim Conway. Description from University of Baltimore: “Originally a Model Cities program, Operation Champ continued its work under Urban Services, bringing playground and athletic equipment into low-income neighborhoods to foster youth and community development. The events hosted sports stars such as the Baltimore Bullets stars to meet youths and teach basketball.”
The organization had several mobile units that set up games and music events in neighborhoods throughout the city. WEBB radio host Rockin’ Robin was instrumental in getting musical groups to perform for community events.
