Top-40 band formed by ex-Villa Novas Bob Sellers (guitar, vocals), and vocalist / percussionist Karen Stone (nee-O’Neal). The duo recruited Joe DeFilippo (drums, vocals), Jim Frado (keyboards, electric piano), and Ben Kaplan (bass).
They were hired to play one weekend at the Karras Steak House in Wilde Lake Village, Columbia and were so successful there that the engagement lasted more than a year. Since Kaplan was only 15 at the time he was under strict orders to stay away from the owner of the club lest his age be discovered.
In 1973 Sellers met Jim Allison. The two hit it off and over the next few years played together in several country bands. In 1976 they formed the Jim Sellers Band along with Opelika bassist Ben Kaplan. Meanwhile the rest of the group Kaplan, Frado, and DeFilippo formed the group Ooh La La.
