R&B/pop group first known as Black Image originated in Edmondson Village around 1970-71. Organized by drummer Bobby Ricks (ex-Sensations), the group featured five vocalists, along with full rhythm and horn sections. The early version of Black Image featured Bobby Ricks (drums), Harlin Gray (lead/rhythm guitar), Dennis Pearson (lead/rhythm guitar ex-Turning Point…), James Lowry (bass, percussion), Rick Bradford (bass, trombone), Rodney Bivens (percussion), Nathan ‘Beethoven’ Johnson (keyboards), Kenneth Kenny (sax), and Larry Williams (trumpet). Vocalists were Eric Coby (male lead) with females Angela Kelly (Adams), Brenda Kelly, Cozine Smith, and Hilda Bailey. Sound man was Sam Maker.

Black Image performed for Operation Champ, the Maritime Union Hall, Alcazar, The Ritz, NCO Club at Ft. Meade, Andrews A.F.B., all the usual eastern shore venues, while also traveling to D.C, and New York… They appeared on WBAL-TV, and recorded demos in D.C. although they did not release a record.

In 1976 the group parted ways with the female vocalists. Coby continued as the lead vocalist and the group name was changed to Image. Later they added Charles Wright as their second lead vocalist.

Image split up around 1977 with most of the members going on the form Chain Reaction.
