Progressive rock group formerly known as Sojourn originally formed in 1983. Iluvatar was named after a character in J.R.R. Tolkien novel “The Silmarillion.” Guitarist Tom Kraus wrote much of the group’s original material. Although he left the group (joining Brave New World) in 1992, many of his compositions were included on Iluvatar’s first two albums. Their debut CD “Iluvatar” (Kinesis Records KDCD1008) was released in 1993 and established the group internationally. Members were Glenn McLaughlin (lead vocals, percussion), Dennis Mullin (guitar), Mick Trimble (bass), Jim Rezek (keyboards ex-Crystal Lynx), and Gary Chambers (drums). Trimble was replaced with Dean Morekas by the time the group released their second set “Children” (Kinesis 1016) in 1995.

Iluvatar – “Haze”

The group played Hillbrook Station (Rosedale), and at ProgScape concerts in Baltimore. They toured internationally and played progressive festivals in Canada, Mexico, and Argentina as well as stateside festivals in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and New York.

After the second album Chambers left the group and was replaced with Rick Fleischmann who was the drummer on the third CD “Sideshow” (Kinesis KDCD1023) released in 1997. Drummer Allen Brunelle (originally from Connecticut – and formerly with metal band King’s Ransom) toured with the group in support of the album release. He later joined The Dark Aether Project. In late 1997 drummer Chris Mack joined Iluvatar.

In 1999 the group released the album “A Story Two Days Wide” (Kinesis KDCD1026) with the lineup of McLaughlin, Mullin, Morekas, Rezek, and Mack.
