Le Flambeau coffee house was established by John Marshall in 1960 on W. 25th St. (now Charles Village) in 1961 they relocated to 2439 N. Charles St. At this small and intimate, townhouse location they showcased live folk, blues and bluegrass musical entertainment from many national performers such as Buffy Saint-Marie and Ramblin’ Jack Elliott. They also offered local musicians such as Jim Hoswell aka ‘Hos’ and Carl Chatzky. Their menu included espresso and other flavored non-alcoholic cold beverages.

In 1964 this same location became the Triton Coffee House owned by John Fager (owner of former Blue Dog Coffee House, and later Fager’s Island), and in 1965 the venue became the Bluesette Teen Discotheque.
