As a songwriter, Ellis has written, recorded and released four independent album/CD projects, been awarded a grant to write and record public service announcements about water conservation and recycling, been commissioned to write a song detailing the dangers of food allergies in children, and had more close calls with the music biz than he cares to count…”

His 1985 album “Crustacean Love” on Baby Boomer Records included backing musicians Terry Alvey (trumpet, recorder), Charlie Barnett (piano, synthesizer), Suede deBronkart (trumpet, vocals), Amy Kinder (vocals), Paul Langosch (bass), Kevin Pallett (drums, percussion), David Rehn (sax), and Brian Silber (violins, vocals). His 1987 private pressed LP “Backstage At Ted’s Rocket Palace” featured Charlie Barnett (keyboards), Joey Doyle (bass, sax), Tom Hirschmann (trumpet -OHO), Gary Peters (bass –Silver Queen), Jim Robertson (sax), Brian Silber (violin), Bob Simms (drums), Barry Sless (pedal steel –Cowboy Jazz), Juan Vasquez (drums, percussion, vibes –Summer’s Misfits, Annie Oakley), with the Lazy Boy Horns featuring trumpets of Pete Gorelick, Tom Hirschmann, and Dan Namovicz, tenor, alto and baritone saxes of Mark Cornaccione (-Xpressions), Joey Doyle and Frank Mitchell, and trombones of David Ferguson and Jeff Chiavarini (later with All Mighty Senators, Expensive Hobby, Junkyard Saints).
