Television station Channel 20 was D.C.’s first UHF station, founded by Milt Grant, who hosted his own music and variety show ‘The Milt Grant Show’ (1961-65).

In the late ‘60s WDCA-TV channel 20 featured ‘Wing Ding,’ a show modeled after NBC’s ‘Hullaballoo’ and ABC’s ‘Shindig’ nationally telecast programs. The show featured appearances by local rock bands including the Chelseas, The Crystals, Howards, Bobby Hirschmann & the Originals, Tangiers, Joey Welz…

Kerby Scott (WCAO DJ) was one of the emcees. Kerby would later become a popular host on his own Baltimore program.

Other hosts included Cousin Duffy, Bill Miller, Scott Wallace, and Jack Alix. In 1968 ‘Wing Ding’ became known as ‘The Jack Alix Show’ and continued to air until being cancelled in April 1969. Baltimore band The Sand Pebbles appeared on the show.
