East Baltimore based AOR band originated at Patterson High School. The original group was an instrumental jam band with Dennis Brown (lead guitar), John Trotta (rhythm guitar), Bob Trotta (bass), Marty Canelli (keyboards), and Elliott Berlin (drums). Brown was later replaced with John Robusto (lead guitar).
John and Martin worked for Jericho Sound. With this connection the group had opportunities to open for nationally known acts but they were lacking vocals. They eventually brought in vocalists Jay Berg (ex-Jay B & Capris), then Tom Harlowe.
In 1972 Harlowe was replaced with Rick Ecke and the band evolved to become Wintersunn.
Turn Blue performed at the Dundalk VFW Hall, Unity Hall, and the Steelworkers Hall for a memorable concert on October 8, 1972 with Joshua, Coyote, Grok, Turn Blue, and Staggerwing…
[Dennis Brown]: “I started playing guitar early on in the Highlandtown area jamming with different players in all the coffee houses and different CYO’s in the area. Eventually Bob and John Trotta started playing and we use to play in the basement of their Mom and Dad’s house. My cousin Martin also eventually came to play as well. That was the genesis of Turn Blue. Those were great and formulative years. I played with John and Bob on and off, but age sort of caught up and I needed a more consistent form of income, so I finally laid down my guitar and never looked back, but those were great years!”
