Top-40 and originals rock band with members hailing from Baltimore, Frederick, Winchester… A 1972 lineup included Phil Zuckerman (guitar), Lenny Grasso (bass), Danny Pellegrini (organ), Gary Haines (drums), and Ginger Kursch (vocals).
Haines and Zuckerman had played together in a number of Winchester bands including the Spiders, Princetons, Mod & the Rockers, and Happy Dog.
The group traveled to Nashville where they recorded an album of material from which a single was released “Happy Things to Say” b/w “Together” (Ace of Hearts 0457).
Keyboard player Mike Kelly (of the Originals, Prodigals, Brandy, Cherry Smash, Sentries, etc.) later joined the band as Pellegrini went on to join Rock Island Express, and Fringe. Milk and Honey played frequently at Sweeney’s on Greenmount Avenue.
Haines and Zuckerman went on to join Apple Jack, a Winchester area power trio. Zuckerman went on to join the Jade Brothers, Animal Crackers, Carnival (see bio).
In 1975 following the split up of the original Cherry Smash, Kelly called looking for a bass player and drummer. Kenny Johnson (bass), and Dave Reid (drums) joined Milk & Honey. The group went on to play a grueling schedule of cross-country tours starting in Missouri, moving on to Texas, and zigzagging across the country.
After a year of touring Johnson decided to leave the band. He eventually rejoined Brent Woodall, and Bob Flurie in the ‘90s to form the River’s Edge band.
Reid played with the band for about three years before settling down on his Pennsylvania farm and orchard business. He continued playing occasionally with some local country groups in his new home town.
