Glen Burnie based R&B group. Members included Gary D’Addario (guitar ex-Arcades), Blair Lee ‘Mickey’ Reed (drums, vibes, sax ex-Nightrockers, Midnight Flames), Ed ‘Buster’ Lewis (bass, trumpet ex-Swingtones), Bruce Laine (bass ex-Nightrockers, Midnight Flames), Gary Hendrickson (trumpet ex-trombonist of Midnight Flames, Ron Schmidt (drums ex-Del Vinos, Arcades), Mark Tiernan (keys ex-Chaun-tels), with saxophonists Mike Mitchell (ex-Howards, Imperals), Ron Sechrist (ex-Londonaires, Centaurs), Paul DeJulius, Dick Lipinski (member of the Buddy Deane Committee), Jimmy Loomis (ex-Chaun-tels), and Al Dahlstrom.
The R&B group could be seen at Hollywood Park… The Joyriders entered a battle of the bands at Overlea Hall. They were fairly late on the band list, but just blew everybody away when they opened up with 5 horns on the intro of the Jimmy Smith song “Walk on the Wild Side”!
Lewis sometimes played the trumpet and bass guitar simultaneously!
D’Addario joined the Omegas… Reed, Tiernan and Loomis later played for Tommy Vann & the Echoes. Hendrickson, Lewis, Laine, Tiernan, and Dahlstrom all had later stints with the Sentries. Laine was later with the Upsetters…
