Pop rock / R&B group played weekends at Fells Point and other area clubs.

The original lineup included Mike Kraus (guitar, vocals ex-Sam’s Creek, Rubber Band, Rude Shoes, Eight Ball), Fred Smith (guitar, vocals ex-Startones, Lucifer’s Mother), Barry Kurlander (drums ex-Shades, Lucifer’s Mother), Charlie Steinhouser (bass ex-Sam’s Creek, Rubber Band), Sarah Mcgladrey (vocals ex-Bobby Comstock Band, Sojourn, Bluesicians), Ken Miller (keyboards, vocals ex-Rubber Band), and Sonny Schnitzer (vocals). In 1982, when Kurlander’s new job schedule required him to leave the group, Ira Katz (ex-No Mercy, Freewater) took his place. Bonnie Wilner (ex-Freewater) took over the vocals in 1983. A few personnel changes came in 1984 with the return of Kurlander and Mcgladrey, Ron Turner on guitar and Clarke Utermohle on bass (both ex-Spectrum, Junction).

Used Parts could be seen many weekends at E.J. Bugs, No Fish Today, Fat Chance Saloon, Toni’s Dream, Dulaney Inn, Marble Bar, Longfellow’s, The Philadelphia Inn, Lucky Ned Pepper’s… The group also performed at proms, private parties, Johns Hopkins, Loyola and St. Mary’s Universities, as well as the Goucher and Mt. Washington Spring Festivals. Their play list included songs by such groups as Steely Dan, Little Feat, Bonnie Raitt, Aretha Franklin, and Janis Joplin.
Used Parts did some recordings at Gunn studios.
Kurlander, Smith, Turner, and Utermohle went on to form The Justin Taylor Band in 1990, and Checkered Past in the ‘00s (less Turner). Turner later played with Bondage Barbie & the Sleazy Bake Ovens, and Zack Nenon & the Classroom Dragons. Schnitzer later with Sing-Sing… Steinhouser joined Footloose, then rejoined Used Parts in 1986. Mcgladrey moved to Canada in 1986. She passed away in 2007.
The ‘80s-90s Used Parts lineup featured original members Kraus, Steinhauser, and Miller, along with Phil Brotman or John Lescuala (drums), Moe Goldman (sax), Andy Armetta (drums), and Debbie Bell (lead vocals). The part time weekend band played clubs and private affairs.
Steinhauser later with Joyride… Goldman went on to Mary Lou & Untouchables… Armetta on to No Apparent Reason, Little Pigs…
