Classically trained flutist Paula Hatcher, a graduate of Peabody Conservatory, and later served on the school faculty. Her groups performed mix of classical and jazz music. She performed with the Peabody Jazz Ensemble featuring Greg Hatza (piano), Bill Biesecker (guitar) and Bob Johnson (bass). They were seen at Jazz on the Plaza series on August 20, 1974.

Hatcher’s jazz groups have featured Biesecker (guitar), Charlie Byrd (guitar), Mark Bradshaw (bass), Ashton Fletcher (bass –played behind Aretha Franklin, Frank Sinatra, Bobby Vinton…), Charlie Covington (piano), Willie Barber (drums). Her groups performed for school concerts, community centers, night clubs, and concerts.
