Soul band managed by Paul Covington from Sandtown area of West Baltimore. The group members included Michael Watson (guitar), Chester (lead guitar), Herman Harris (bass), Rodney ‘Skeet’ Curtis (bass), Marvin (bass), Jeff Covington (keyboards), Pete Carter (drums), Danny Rogers (drums ex-IBM’s), Roger Burch (trumpet), William Moore (sax), James Scott (lead vocals), Marty ‘Boo’ Best (vocals)…
The group won a talent search contest hosted by DJ Rockin’ Robin for WEBB radio and throughout the years continued friendly band rivalries with other West Baltimore groups including the Reputations, Whatnauts, and others. They performed for cabarets, school dances and proms… High school dances included Forest Park, Northern, Dundalk…
Paul was business manager, and as a city employee working for Operation Champ, he was instrumental in getting the group hired to perform those events. The Castelles became the main ‘house band’ performing for many neighborhood festivals…
Watson later with the Whatnauts… Members of the Castelles went on to form Theory’s of Reality, and Hot Ice. Moore was a member of Jr. Walker’s backing band.
