Multi-instrumentalist playing guitar, banjo, later incorporating electronics. Gary related that “I started doing the church coffeehouse circuit in the late 60’s doing folk and pop music (Randallstown Jaycees coffeehouse…). In the ‘70s I played a number of places; my last ‘big gig’ of the ‘70s was the 1974 Baltimore City Fair.
“I got back into performing in the late 1970’s, doing a lot of politically-oriented folk music and was a regular at Bread and Roses Coffeehouse in Waverly; I also helped run it for a while. In the mid-’80s I moved into my ‘poor man’s Laurie Anderson phase,’ performing on cheap Yamaha and Casio keyboards. My album “Original Soundtrack” came out at that time (as by Gary and his Original Art Ensemble). I morphed from there into somewhat more high-tech stuff using a synthesizer, sound module and sequencer, doing multi-media shows and writing music for local plays, string quartet, and woodwind trio.
Gary’s original music was featured in the play “Time Trek” by the theater group Kuumba, and the Alan Robert stage play “The Virtue of Madness.”
“I stopped performing in the mid-’90s as I started going to college at the ripe old age of 42. I was beginning to perform again in 2004 when my wife and I moved to Massachusetts. Here I have again returned to my folk roots, performing in the New England area with 12-string guitar, and a long-neck 5-string banjo.”
