WANN 1190 AM, an Annapolis station was founded in 1946 by Morris Blum. The station catered to the black audience and was possibly the first station to hire African-American air personalities. The most prominent personality on the station over the years was ‘Hoppy Adams’.
R&B was the mainstay on WANN until 1992 when Mr. Blum, still the owner, converted to a Country music format.
In the ‘00s 1190-AM is the home of WBIS and features financial news.
