Track Recording Studios was owned and operated by Bill Tate. Located in Silver Spring it was responsible for the recordings of many D.C. and Baltimore area groups. The studio primarily recorded bands while also producing commercial work.
The Studio’s own label Mantis Records produced an international R&B hit by Sir Joe (Quarterman) & Free Soul which sold over 500,000 copies. The studio also did recordings of Linda Ronstadt, Julius Brockington, Van McCoy, and others. Most of the country recordings for the Maryland based Rebel Records were also done at Track.
