Crownsville based R&B group originally known as J.R. & the Royals, and then as Lycindiana. Members included Renee Diggs (vocals), George Phillips Jr. (keyboards, vocals), Ernesto Phillips (guitar, trumpet, keyboards), Orlando Phillips (keyboards, sax, bass), Greg Phillips (drums, percussion), and Kayode Adeyemo (bass, keyboards). Guitarist Dave Glaser toured with the group in mid-’80s.

Starpoint released a string of twenty R&B hits including three Top-10 throughout the ‘80s. Their biggest hit came in 1985 “Object of My Desire” charting R&B and crossover to Pop Top-40. Other Top-10’s were “What You Been Missing” and “He Wants My Body.”

They released ten albums during the ‘80s. The group also did session work for the All-Platinum and Motown record labels.

Orlando provided bass, sax and vocals for local band Mama Jama (‘87-95). He also appeared on Toni Braxton’s debut album. In the ‘00s he performed Caribbean music. Ernesto has produced recordings by Starpoint, Toni Braxton, and others. Greg has performed with many local and internationally known artists including recording and touring with Najee. Adeyemo is credited as co-writer of Milli Vanilli’s hit single “Girl You Know It’s True.”
