Jazz beat poet. Many of her original compositions spoke of the black civil rights movement and black consciousness, and were recorded over a background of jazz and funk music. She recorded two albums at Accent Sound Studios in Baltimore that were released on Perception Records out of Philadelphia. Backing music was provided by a group that recorded on Perception as the United Chair including Gary Leslie ‘Boo’ Langston (guitar), Marcell Turner (bass, tambourine), Julius Brockington (piano, organ, ARP synthesizer), Steve Turner (flute, alto sax), Jimmy Wilson (trumpet), and Ralph Fisher (drums).

Robinson, always known as an influential writer, later became an author known as Laini Mataka. Her book publications include Never as Strangers (1989), Restoring the Queen (1994) and Being a Strong Black Woman Can Getchu Killed (2000).
