Group formed by classmates at Milford Mill High School in Randallstown. The band consisted of Lee Schuman (lead vocals), John Ortenzi (guitar), Ralph Weiner (guitar), Gary Brown (sax, guitar), and Brett Shaffer (drums).

With influences by the Rolling Stones and the Animals they played the “big beat sound – from Liverpool to Motown” at school dances, private parties, and teen centers. The group later evolved into a soul band adding a black lead vocalist and a horn section. They were seen at Maryvale Teen Dance at Villa Julie College, Church Lane Jr. Teen Center…

The Prophets also performed at the Hullaballoo Scene in Glen Burnie in February 1967.

Shaffer was later with the Mystics. Brown went on to form the Lotus Duo with his wife Louise Morgan. As a duo they played folk music. Eventually they added musicians and became the Lotus Band (also see Brown, Gary & Louise). Brown later formed several more bands (Night Train, Third Party, Gary Brown Group, Doubts) as well as solo performances throughout the ‘70s and into the ‘00s.
