Recording artists Howard Frazier (guitar, vocals), and Howard Spinney (guitar, bass, vocals) were the first black rock & roll act to appear on the Buddy Deane Show. They also performed on television dance shows hosted by Milt Grant, and Dick Clark. WITH radio DJ Jack Gale brought the duo into his Biddle Street studio where they recorded “Lola” and “Mimi Girl.” The songs were sold to ABC and released in 1959 as ABC-Paramount 9897. “Mimi Girl” was reportedly written for Mimi Treavey, secretary for WITH radio station owner Mr. Tinsley. The backing group for the recording included Al Knight (bass), Mike Mitchell (tenor), JJ (tenor), and a studio drummer.
The Howards tours included appearances at the Apollo Theater in New York.
Spinney was also a member of many local groups including the Imperals.
