WBAL’s long history began in 1925. WBAL (W-BALtimore) 1090-AM has always been one of the top-rated radio stations in the Baltimore area featuring music, news, talk, and sports (the Orioles Baseball flagship station for many years).

In the 1970s-’80s Personalities included Jack Lacy, Jay Grayson (formerly of WANN, Annapolis), Bob Jones, Perry Andrews, Elaine Stein, Alan Christian, Robert C. Allen (formerly with WCAO), Bob Starnes, Luther Starnes, Brian MacDonald, John Patti, Dave Durian, Kimberly Klacik, Ron Smith “The Voice of Reason”, Morning talk-show host Allan Prell aka Uncle Allie. Allan’s many antics included “The Marginally Talented Russ Margo” and programs such as “Honest Al’s Yard Sale.”

At nights the station featured Harley Brinsfield’s jazz music show. Harley had originally been on WITH and was proprietor of the local Harley’s sandwich store chain that originated on the corner of McMechon Street and Linden Avenue. The Harley Show theme song was “Sailing Down the Chesapeake” by Bob Scobey’s Frisco Band. In the ‘70s he returned to WITH.

WBAL personalities Allan Prell, John Patti, Mark Miller, and Mark Weaver – as The Nephews – released a bluegrass tribute to the morning talk show host titled “The Ballad of Allan Prell.”
