The group formerly known as the Uptowns featured vocalist Alana Shor, with the group renamed as Alana & the Scottsmen.

The July 1967 line-up featured former Uptowns Scott Cathcart (drums), Ken Heiser (trumpet), and Bob Kropkowski (organ ex-Moonlighters), Tom Nowakowski (lead guitar ex-24 Karat Five, Limits), and Bill Whitney (bass ex-Stratfords). The band performed at the Glen Burnie Hullaballoo Club in June of 1967. They became the national Hullaballoo band and toured the clubs throughout the northeastern U.S.

Alana Shor left the band in early 1968 to join the Magnificent Seven. She was replaced with Coral / Columbia recording vocalist Donna Marie (ex-Shelley’s Emeralds). This was a return for Donna as she had previously been with the group when they were known as the Uptowns.

As Donna & the Scottsmen the band continued to play venues like the Forum, Club Venus, Hollywood Park…. They also appeared at the Teen Fair Battle of the Bands at the Civic Center in June 1968.

Donna eventually left the band and the name was shortened back to the Scottsmen.

After Cathcart left the group Heiser, Kropkowski, Whitney, and Nowakowski formed the Better Half.
