Group morphed out of the Outlaws. Led by vocalist Lou Meyers (ex-Playboys, later with the Progressions).

The Outlaws started out at a club on York Road, then moved to Capt. Harvey’s (at Cross and Lights Streets) where they became the Mojo’s, named after the latest Jimmy Smith hit “Got My Mojo Working.” They later went on to the Hitching Post on Baltimore Street where they played steady for nine years.

Vocalist Rose Russell sat in with the group at the Hitching Post.

The group included Jim Sowder (guitar ex-Velvetones), John Trotter (guitar ex-Progressions), Rich Bowman (bass ex-Upsetters, Fidelities…), Woody Perry (drums)… After Trotter left they hired Bert Zimmerman (guitar, keys ex-Notables, Rockin’ Aires…) briefly, then he was in turn replaced with Larry Clutter (aka Larry Shade). Shade later left to play solo and Jerry Kirkendoffer joined, who was in turn replaced with Joe Dimaggio while the group was playing regularly at the Lighthouse on Eastern Boulevard. Drummer Joe Lewitowski and aka ‘Wop’ replaced Perry… The group moved on to the Chesaco Inn where Jamie Weber replaced Wop.

July 1973

Other venues they performed included Disco South Lounge on Clement Street, Consul House, Impala Lounge, Fenwick Lounge, and a stint as a house band at the Golden Palamino in Highlandtown…

October 1975

Sowder, Dimaggio later formed Boss Company. Russell sang for the Berwick Street Project. Zimmerman went on to lead the Cadillac Cruisers…
