Actress / vocalist who found fame as the Egg Lady in the 1974 John Waters film “Pink Flamingos.” Massey had previously appeared in the film “Multiple Maniacs” (1971), and went on to play parts in “Female Trouble” (‘75), “Love Letters to Edie” (‘75), “Desperate Living” (‘77), “Polyester” (‘81), “Mutants in Paradise” (‘85).
Edith Massey, a Fells Point shop owner, also performed as a punk rock artist / vocalist / songwriter. She could be seen at the Marble Bar where she fronted several bands including the Enfants Terrible, and the Evidence.
Massey took her musical show on the road and was billed as “The Queen of Punk.” Drummer Gina Schock (ex-Scratch ‘n Sniff) went on tour with her and eventually landed in L.A. where she joined a group that would become the Go-Go’s.

After relocating to Venice, California Massey released a 1982 picture disc single “Punks Get Off the Grass” b/w “Big Girls Don’t Cry” (Egg 001). Players were Frank Gilcken (guitar), Steve Longo and Nick Longo (bassists), Susan Lauer (keyboards), David Crockett (drums), with background vocalists Pat Hodges and Gloria Scott.

In addition to her roles in John Waters films, she appeared in the John (Cougar) Mellencamp video “This Time (I Think I’m Really in Love).”
Massey died of cancer May 28, 1984.
