Country singer and guitarist Joan Smallwood could be seen at Sid’s Ranch House on Baltimore Street circa 1963-65. She recorded at Ralph Johnson’s Wedge Records studios and released singles produced by Joey Welz. Joan’s first single featured backing by the R&B vocal group the Veltones. A subsequent Wedge release featured a studio group. Her song “Anything” was included on the Wedge LP “Country Music North of Nashville.”

Smallwood eventually married Ralph (see Johnson, Ralph). The couple later moved their studios to Nashville.
