Jazz multi-instrumentalist originally from Norfolk, moved to Baltimore in late ‘60s, and later went on to play with the likes of Horace Silver, Jack McDuff, and Sun Ra, among others.

 As a freelance drummer Goffigan played in groups that included local greats Gary Bartz (sax), Cyrus Chestnut (keyboards)… His William Goffigan Trio featured Gene Walker (sax), and Charlie Etzel (keys). The trio was backing band for vocalist Damita Jo. Venues included long-time stints at the Chanticleer, and Sportsmen’s Lounge. More recently at the Silver Shadow Club in Columbia. His recorded output includes the albums “William’s Lullaby” (1991 cassette), and CD’s “Time” (1993), “The Eternal Flame” (1995), “Jazz Straight Up” (2000), and “Save Your Love for Me” (2016).

Goffigan also taught jazz at Antioch College, Frederick Douglass High School, and as a private instructor, and is author of his “Guide to Drum Tuning Technique” manual.
