Essex/Middle River based band combined elements of funk, metal, punk, and rock. Founded in 1990 by ex- Deadly Aggressor members Larry Connelly (guitar), Donovan Kropkowski ‘Don’ (guitar), John ‘Nort’ Knorlein (drums ex-Have Mercy…), with Brant Lockwood, and Terry Connelly (vocals). Later members included Mike Smith (guitar –replacing Donovan in 1993), and Jimmie Redmon (drums ex-Juicy Lucy).
The group earned cult status throughout the local underground music scene from modest beginnings at the Midway Café, to playing for capacity crowds at Hammerjacks. Established bands began enlisting them as warm up act, and eventually the Funk Junkies were headlining their own shows at venues such as Steeltown, A.L. Gators, Hammerjacks, and The Zu… Larry, Donovan, Terry, and Jimmie also performed concurrently as members of the Ganja Bros. They later formed the band SWIFTHOLLY.
