Towson R&B and pop band which bred many top-notch musicians throughout the Baltimore area in the ‘60s and ‘70s. The group name originated from a microphone brand name. Managed by Al Crawford, Denny & the Dynamics early lineup consisted of Denny Picasso (lead vocals), Jerry Treffinger (lead vocals), Chuck Taylor (guitar, bass), Jeff Anderson (guitar, bass), Joe Luppold (piano), Buzz Sappington (sax ex-Poker Chips), Don Barto (trumpet), and Dave Peterson (drums).
They performed at countless area teen dances. In 1962 the group recorded an album of material at Recordings Incorporated. The album was never released but from those recordings they released a single on their own Dyna label.
Members history: Mike Hodgeman (vocals) later went on to front the RaVons, GTO’s, Elegants, Majestics, Admirals, Celebration. Vocalist Jerry Treffinger went on to Satins, Danny & the Elegants. Denny Picasso (ex-Majestics) later went on to the Soul Machine, Denny & Hitchhikers… Tom Fargo (sax) was replaced with Santo Mirabile (sax) – who went on to play locally for the Chaumonts rhythm section, and Glass House. Mirabile played sax for Patti LaBelle’s touring band 1981-84. Guitarist / bassist Sam Towers went on to the RaVons, Gary & the GTO’s, Danny & the Elegants, Mitch Ryder Band, Light, Flow. Keyboardist Joe Luppold later played for Jay Granger’s Persuasions. Don Lehnhoff (trombone) joined in ’63-’64, previously Poker Chips, later Majestics, Mitch Ryder Band.


The Dynamics reunited for a special concert on June 15, 2002 featuring the Epics, Majestics, Mello Men, and the Charmed Times Reunion Band.
