R&B and blues guitarist / vocalist Chauncey Harris. Member of Baltimore groups Flat Top & the Soul Twisters, and Charlie Brown & the Defiant Ones. The Defiant Ones traveled to Philadelphia where they did most of their performances. They played at the 366 Club opposite Sonny Stitt, the Banana Boat with Bunny Sigler, Democratic Clubs, the Living Room… Harris later moved to New York where he met George Elliott and subsequently toured with artists such as the Treniers, Gene Chandler, Shep & the Limelights, Cliff Nobles, Jackson 5…

Upon returning to Baltimore Harris purchased the Manhattan Club. In 1972 he released a single using his stage name Billy ‘Madhatter’ Davis. The record was produced by Ernie Burston and released on Harris’ own Tess Mae label named after his mom and aunt. A subsequent re-labeling of the single on the Concept Spirit label showed producer C. Brown.

Harris continued to perform jazz, R&B and rock music locally. His group JoyRide performed regularly during the mid-‘00s at Micho’s in Reisterstown…
