Jazz drummer. Member of Alan Houser Band. As side project in 1988, Phil along with co-member Mike Carrick (sax ex-Chrome…) formed the Phil Cunneff Trio to play Saturday afternoons at the Cat’s Eye. Drew Gress became the first regular bassist for the Trio that became a fixture at the Cat’s Eye, and other Fells Point clubs, while also traveling to clubs throughout the mid-Atlantic region.
In mid-‘90s the Trio featured Ben Frock (trumpet, flugelhorn, cornet), and Jeff Reed (upright bass). His ‘00’s trio included Rick Hannah (guitar), and Tom Baldwin (keys), releasing two albums “Oui Bop” (2000), and “Encore Oui Bop” (2006).
Cunneff also played for Steve Kraemer’s Bluesicians, and the group After Hours.
Cunneff recorded at Roeder Studios and in 2005 released the CD “Levi.”
Frock also a member of Rumba Club… Reed worked with Paul Wingo, Al Maniscalco, and various other local jazz combos…
