Originally from Ithica, New York, Cochran began his radio career on WTKO, Ithica. He came to Baltimore in ‘70s and worked at WKTK, and later the morning man at “Hot Hits K-106.”
On Sunday nights he led a Gong Show at The Quarter Deck night club.

While in Baltimore he released the parody record “Rock Me, I’m A Dentist” to the tune of the Falco hit “Rock Me Amadeus.” Proceeds from the sale of the record went to local charities. Voices on the recording included Cochran with Kathy Whiteside, Claire Wimmer, Rick Lewis, Libby Wicks, Maureen Cochran, and Scott Kiddoo.
In 1988 Cochran moved to WKBQ-FM St. Louis. Worked at stations in Minneapolis and Chicago. In 00’s The Steve Cochran Show on WGN-Chicago was one of the top-rated shows in the country.
