A busy 1800 block of Charles Street – The Carousel, Gatsby’s, and in more recent years is the site of Choices.

Approximate years of existence Carousel (1958-1976), Gatsby’s (1976-1980), and Choices (1980s).

January 1963

[Bruce Westcott] Played the Carousel on my own, and the Spa, both on Charles Street, with Ronnie Dove. Both places had their bandstands behind the bar – makes for great contact with an audience. Always admired Lou Voir at the Carousel.

[Patti Byrd] I worked at the Carousel lounge. I worked for Tiny (club manager) when he was around the corner on North and St Paul St before The Carousel lounge. Dutch and Shirley, the bar tenders.

[Diane Pruitt] Played there on the weekends with the Tempros

[Steve Hasler] That [may have been] the same Tiny who also worked the door at No Fish Today (until it burned down in ’81) and then the 8×10 in the eighties. Real name: Lawrence Staton. Unfortunately he passed in 1992 at age 42.
