Vocalist of sister group The Braxtons from Severn, MD. DJ Randy Dennis was instrumental in helping to launch her solo career.
In 1991 Bill Pettaway (co-writer of Milli Vanilli’s “Girl You Know It’s True”) signed Toni to the newly launched LaFace Records and her song “Love Shoulda Brought You Home” from the Eddie Murphy soundtrack “Boomerang” charted nationally on both pop and R&B charts. After a successful hit duo with Babyface “Give U My Heart,” Toni released her first album in 1993 which yielded three Top-10 singles. The album eventually sold over 8 million copies and earned her 3 Grammy awards.
In 1996 she released her second album “Secrets” which became a nationally smash including the hit song “Un-Break My Heart” that spent 11 weeks at the top of the Pop charts and earned two Grammy awards.
In 1998 Toni went on Broadway and played the part of “Belle” in the production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.
Her third album “Heat” was released in 2000 and although not as successful as the previous albums still earned the Grammy for Best R&B Vocal for the hit “He Wasn’t Man Enough.” Subsequently Toni has released the albums “Snowflakes” (2001) and “Libra” (2005).
