Established in 1965 by Bill and Nancy Higgins. Bill had formerly been a guitarist for the Chasers, Del-Rays and the Henchmen (Ru-Jac recording artist later morphed into the Koffee Beans). He began giving guitar lessons and rented a small shop on Mellor Avenue in Catonsville for teaching. Eventually he began stocking guitars and supplies for his clients. As the business grew, they opened the original Bill’s Music House in a small storefront at 809 Frederick Avenue.

By mid-1966 the store had expanded to an additional location at 18 Main Street in Ellicott City. Although the Ellicott City location was short-lived, the business grew by leaps and bounds.

A larger store was later opened across the street from the original location and has since expanded to two large buildings. Still operating in the ‘00s Bill’s established itself as the west sides top musical instrument sales and service store.
