Pianist/songwriter Myra Ellen Amos attended Peabody Conservatory of Music as a pre-teen. She later relocated to the D.C. area where she attended Richard Montgomery High School and started playing music in local piano bars. Her first record “Baltimore” was written in 1978 for a competition in conjunction with a promotion for the Baltimore Orioles baseball team. The song was released on a split single with Contraband. It was later released on her independent label M.E.A. (her initials). 500 copies of the single were pressed.

By her early 20s she changed her name to Tori and moved to Los Angeles in hopes of furthering her musical career. After some commercial ad work, she met and teamed up with guitarist/writer/producer Steve Caton thus beginning her prolific recording career.
