R&B group formed at Morgan State College. Members hailed from Baltimore, Catonsville, and sax player from Annapolis. The rhythm section consisted of Herbie Adams (guitar), Joe Johnson (bass), Jerry Brooks (started on drums then switched to keyboards), Tommy Edward Arthur aka ‘TEA’ (sax), and in mid-‘60s Out front was a vocal group called the Majestics that included Carl Brooks, Randolph Tate, George Jackson, and Horace Price.
Carl Brooks, known as ‘Corky’, began singing with the group at age seven. They did a lot of Frankie Lymon style covers. By age fourteen he became the group’s drummer, with older brother Jerry moving to keyboards.
The group performed popular R&B sounds at many colleges and dances from Baltimore to Philadelphia. Locally they could be seen at cabaret events, and clubs including the Comedy Club, Sphinx Club, Bird Cage, and Phil’s (Moser St). They performed live on a WMAR-TV show hosted by Goldseker Realty with emcee Chuck Richards. The group backed the Royalettes and was once scheduled to tour Europe with them but unfortunately the trip was cancelled.
The Brooks family was very active in music. Scott Brooks, brother of Jerry and Carl, toured as drummer for Herbie Mann, and the Crusaders. Jerry’s son, Corey Brooks (see bio), was also a highly regarded keyboardist.
