Jim and his country band the Cherokees could be seen at Club Stabiles, Tin Dipper, and Big Dipper in Beltsville… They performed on Friday and Saturday nights as house band at the Big Dipper, who’s owner Frank Gosman – an inductee in the Middle Atlantic States Country Music Hall of Fame – described them as the best three-piece band outside of Nashville. Led by Buckley (lead vocals, bass guitar), the Cherokees also included Bill Cochran (lead guitar), and Randy Gue (drums).

The group was featured as house band for the CSA Jamboree at the Big Dipper. Every Sunday they provided backing music for 10-20 singers on the radio program which was broadcast live throughout the mid-Atlantic region including WISZ in Laurel. The band was also the road band for Jim Case on tours throughout the U.S. and Europe.
Buckley released the single “Third Time Today” b/w “Marie St. John” produced by Bollon & Plato circa 1971/72. The songs were written by Dave Kirby and Hal Bynum.
Buckley and his group traveled extensively including U.S. tours throughout the east coast and Las Vegas, Albuquerque, Denver, Nashville, Phoenix, as well as worldwide including trips to Viet Nam where he entertained the troops.
Buckley had previously played bass for the Clay Price Band…
