Pioneering air personality originally from Baltimore, Johnny Compton started his radio career at WOV in New York. Returning to Baltimore he worked with Larry Dean at WWIN, establishing the first 24-hour black radio station, where he worked as Jazz Music Director for over twelve years. He later worked at Baltimore stations WEBB, WITH, WXYV (V-103).

In  the ‘70s he owned the Disco-106 Club in Pikesville. Compton also hosted the local “Entertainment Plus” show on cable television.
