Founded in 1969 by former radio personality John Jeppi. John worked as an announcer at WWIN and a sports show host at WAQE in the 1960s.

BIM was one of few nationally accredited broadcasting schools in the country. Located on Harford Road in Baltimore the school offered students the opportunity to major in their choice of radio or TV. Teachers were all veterans of the industry and able to provide unique insights to all fields of study. In house WBIM radio affords students hands on training for radio broadcasting on a live station to a limited area surrounding the school.

BIM boasts an alumni association of over 2500 members. Graduates are employed at radio and TV stations all over the country. Graduates include Lou Mann (VP Capitol Records, co-owner House of Blues), Sarah Fleischer (WIYY 98 Rock), Robin Quivers (Howard Stern Show), Gary Bowden (GM of WXYV, Charleston WV), Tim Williams (WJZ-TV Ch. 13), Bob Dockins (WWIN), Jamie Costello (WMAR-TV Ch. 2), Scott O’Hara (Chief Photographer WJZ-TV 13), Mac Finney (Photographer, TV video production WJZ-TV 13), Sonya Briscoe (CNN), Gregory Kane (Baltimore Sun columnist), Bill Spicer (WJZ-TV)…
