Towson area teen R&B and soul band formed by Ken Killion (guitar), and Chris Saunders (guitar), with Randy Walker (drums), Mike Bryles (keyboards), and Rick Armiger (keyboards). The group practiced in Killion’s basement. Without a permanent lead singer their friend Jeff Drinkwater (Jay Dee & the Chasers) accompanied the group on the first few gigs. They performed at the American Legion Hall on DeSoto Road…
Meanwhile there were some ongoing issues with the group name. Originally known as the Viscounts, there was another local group using the name and everyone seemed to pronounce it wrong anyway, so the “s” was dropped and the group became the Vicounts. The group also received a call from management of the “Harlem Nocturne” group to cease using the name. By this time the group was going through some personnel changes. Armiger was replaced with Dennis Gould (keyboards), Walker was replaced with Buzzy London (drums), and lead vocalist Dave Gostomski was added. At this time the group came up with the Froggy thing. Dave became ‘Froggy’ and he brought along his following from his previous band the Heard. The group became known as Froggy & the Gremlins.
