In 1987 Mitch Foote (bass), and Dave Kennick (drums) left U.S. Bang and joined forces with members of D.C. based rock group Thunderdog: Randy Savage (lead vocals), Larry Orf (lead guitar), and Bobby Banks (keys, vocals) to form Top Dog.

Top Dog played covers of bands such as Led Zeppelin, Journey, and the like at Network, Seagull, Loverde’s, Maxwell’s, Coast To Coast…

After Top Dog split up Foote played with 38 Special as a fill-in (between November 1988 through June 1989) while their bassist recovered from a broken hip.
