Richard Taylor & the Ravers “roots” rock and roll sound melded the ‘80s new wave sounds with ‘50s rockabilly and ‘60s rock. With an ever-changing lineup the Ravers existed from the early ‘80s until around 1994.
In 1983 Taylor released a self-titled 4-song 12” EP with Thomas Anthony (bass), and Zach Christopher (drums). The trio played throughout the area including a stint as the regular Thursday night band at Back of the Vac (1983-84).
A mid-’80s line-up of the Ravers featured Taylor (guitar), Bob Kannenberg (guitar), Neil Dissinger (bass), and Matt Maschal (drums).
The album “Front Page News” was released in 1987 and featured Taylor (guitar, vocals), with Dissinger (bass), Rod DeOlivares (guitar, vocals), Steve Nace (bass, vocals –Special Delivery, Mirror Image), Zack Taylor (guitar, vocals), and Gary Schroader (drums, vocals).
Taylor‘s 1990 solo CD “Beyond Vanity” on the Run Wild label received good reviews in both the Washington Post and the Maryland Musician magazine where it was voted “album of the year.” Backing Taylor were DeOlivares (guitar), Ron Rossbach (bass, vocals), Jake Lambert (bass, vocals), John Sines (drums), Zack Taylor (drums), and Brandon Finley (drums).
In the ‘00s Richard produced recordings by the band Frankentractor and played at various festivals in the area as well as performing at the annual Night of 100 Elvis’s show. His Crossroads Sounds Studio is located in Eldersburg, Maryland. where he records his own material as well as other local bands that have included Rod Sebastian, and others. In 2005 Taylor released the CD “Silhouette.” Taylor also was host of his own weekly internet music program “Roots Rock Radio.” The program received rave reviews in March 24, 2006 issue of Rolling Stone magazine.
