Former member of the Vibra-Notes, Smith played nightly in 1962 at the Celebrity Lounge as the Hook Smith Twist Band performing with the Tony Dee Quintet. His Trios and Quartets could be seen at many local clubs including the Westview Lounge, Gambrinus, Benkert’s featuring Vince DiPaula (keyboards), Ray Allen… The group performed in the Jazz on the Plaza series on August 30, 1974.
