Rock band formed in early ‘90s at University of Maryland College Park. The original lineup featured Mitch (Allen) Scherr (guitar, lead vocals), Seth Lankin (lead guitar), Dave Scheraga (bass), and Jim Wiley (drums). The group enlisted Child’s Play manager Jack Dean and played Max’s on Broadway, Grog & Tankard, Mickey’s, The Funnel, etc. They did a showcase in 1990 with local bands Hammer, and City Fixx at Hammerjacks for Columbia Records…
The band eventually morphed into Bloom. In 1995 Mitch Allen formed a new Honor Among Thieves with George Bold (guitar, vocals), Jeff Reid (bass), and Brian Gannon (drums). Bold left (later with Rebel Amish Radio), and was replaced with Mark Beauchemin (guitar). The group played locally and throughout the east coast. They released the indie CD “Grow.”
With new management of Deep South Productions, they became known as Radio Star (after the Buggles’ MTV hit), and secured a contract with RCA Records in 1999. Due to a name conflict, they were forced to change name again, this time choosing SR-71 (see bio).
