Funk band led by saxophonist Mary Pat Hughes, with Heather McKay (lead guitar), Michelle Humphrey (drums), Justine Miller (trumpet)… The group performed locally at Fat Tuesday’s, Eight by Ten, Harborplace, Pier Six, Artscape, Baltimore Gay Pride Festivals, D.C. area venues, and toured nationally including stints in Las Vegas.



Hughes was born in Baltimore, raised in Northern Virginia, then moved to the Hamilton area while attending college. Prior to 2 Funkin’ Heavy she had been a member of the ‘80s groups Chain Gang, Girl Friday, Bad Broads of the Blues, the Broads of Be-Bop, The Fantastic Cutters eight-piece touring band circa 1990-91 (that also featured saxophonist Roger Pace). Mary Pat also played bassoon with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. She died of leukemia on June 8, 1999
