Formerly known as WFMM, an easy listening music station. It was purchased by Nationwide Communications and renamed WPOC “Pride of the Chesapeake” and went on to become Baltimore’s top country station. Beginning in August 1974 WPOC began broadcasting contemporary country music. The station initially operated out of a trailer at the WBFF TV-45 complex. Nationwide invested in a new transmitter which boosted their power to 50,000 watts, one of only 4 Baltimore stations with that much power at the time. They also moved the studio to the Rotunda Mall where they continued to broadcast in the ‘00s.
Publicity for the new station kicked off with a TV spot featuring the popular Clay Price & 301 Country performing on top of the USF&G building downtown.

Their first Program Director (PD) Pete Porter was formerly a weekend sports and weather guy from TV channel 2. He hosted his WPOC radio program Mondays thru Saturdays from 9AM to noon. Personalities included Bob Walker (announcer and PD), Billy Foxx (Bob Mace), Les Bagley, and Danny Reese. Later came Mike O’Connor, Jeff Miller, Steve Rodgers, Tony Girol, Bob Riley, Trish Hennessey, Lou Collins (Colin Lewis), PD Larry Clark, Lisa Kay Riley.

1980s-90s+ personalities included Bob Moody, Brenda Bissette, Teri Norman, Ed Rodriguez (Modlin ex-WTHU, WAMD, WFRE), Tony Girard, Rocky Marlow and Laurie DeYoung as the Rocky & Laura Show… Scott Lindy…

In 1975 the station released an album featuring then current favorite national hits.
