R&B vocal harmony group from West Baltimore formed by Douglass High school mates William Mills (baritone-tenor), and Isaiah Terry Johnson (guitar, first tenor vocal), with Billy Mills (tenor), Eugene Lewis (second tenor), and Eddie Rogers (bass vocalist) later replaced with James Johnson.
The group went to Philadelphia and recorded at Gotham Records, releasing two singles in 1955. Locally they performed talent shows, clubs, and made appearances at Carr’s Beach…
The Whispers split up in 1955. Johnson later led local groups called the Rhythm Kings, and the House Rockers. In late 1956 he reunited with childhood friends Zeke and Jake Carey and joined the Flamingos.
