Hard rock band morphed out of Wet Cement. Formed by Dave Loetz (bass, vocals), and John Schweitzer (drums, vocals), the group went through several name changes and personnel before settling as The Urge. Along the way they recruited Rob Kroupa (guitar, vocals), Gary Duggan (lead vocals), and Steve Beres (keyboards) who was replaced with Dave Bannasch. Lead vocalists included James Anthony, and Buddy Chalk.




By the early ‘90s the group consisted of Kroupa, Loetz and Schweitzer, with Steve Shaffer (guitar, vocals), and Cinema Greenberg (lead vocals).
Shaffer was later replaced with Brian Harrison. Eventually Harrison left and the group continued briefly as a trio.
The Urge performed at most of the clubs throughout the MD, VA, PA region including Maxwell’s, Midway Café, Millersville Inn, Sneaker’s, Network, Rabbit’s Foot, The Strand…
In 1994 they recorded a six-song demo “Swallow My Pride” produced by Drew Mazurek. The group also had a concurrent acoustic project called Beware of Dog. Their song “Cheatin’ on Me” was included on 1993 CD comp “Project: Sound Expansion Vol. 1” (Global Connections).
