South Baltimore band. Members included Dennis Stumpf (lead vocals), Joe Newton (lead guitar), James Gallon (bass), George Perry (organ), and Neal Fitze (drums). Managed by Joseph Newton and Helen Johnson, they were seen at teen dances including the Patterson Park Y-Teen, Baltimore Highlands Teen Center, Maiden Choice Teen Center, and the Milford Mill Swim Club. George Campbell and David Dash managed the equipment and stage lighting.

The group cut a demo at Bradley Studios “This Magic Moment” and “Competition of Your Love” and was showcased on TV Channel 13’s “Baltimore Breakout” on November 16, 1969, and in 1970 appeared on “The Kerby Scott Show.”

After some personnel changes circa 1970-71 the Subject Five played Ramonas Bar & Grill on Millers Island. The new members were Bobby Groszer (keyboards), Bill Differ (guitar), and Jimmy Muir (drums).

Differ later with Flying Circus. Gallon with Beggar’s Opera, Dry Dock, Odin, Renaud, Both Worlds… Groszer with the Playmates, Cobblestone…
